In his words: The son of Polish refugees who left the country during the Cold War, I was born in Idaho in 1988 but I’ve spent most of my life growing up in Acton, Massachusetts. After high school I attended college at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, earning a bachelors degree in Microbiology and Public Health while working as an Emergency Medical Technician. Seeking to understand the social, as well as clinical aspects of medicine and health, I had the privilege of collaborating with and interning for organizations such as Physicians for Human Rights and Partners in Health. After seeing firsthand the capacity for clinicians and other healthcare providers to heal not only individuals but communities, I knew I wanted to become a physician. Since coming to the Alpert Medical School at Brown University, I’ve come to love my school, RI, and the Providence area I call home and I’m truly grateful for the mentors and friends who helped me get here and who continue to support and teach me going forward. In addition to medicine, I have a fondness for singing, sailing, and the great outdoors.

Sarah Rapoport

Sarah was admitted to Brown University’s Program in Liberal Medical Education, and graduated in May 2010 with a Bachelor of Science in Human Biology, Health and Disease. After graduating she deferred medical school to spend a year as a Dorot Fellow in Israel. Based in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, she split her time between studying Modern Hebrew Literature, learning Arabic, and working with two organizations that provide health care to underserved Israeli populations. At the Hagar and Miriam African-Israeli Women’s Center she helped refugee women navigate the health care system so that they obtained the medical care they needed. At Physicians for Human Rights she helped run a free medical clinic for African refugees and foreign workers. Sarah is also interested in foreign languages and plans to run her first marathon in May.
